Fossils and Evolution
UKS2 1 hour Available all year
This workshop provides pupils with a hands on introduction to Jurassic fossils found in the UK, and how they provide evidence for species adaptation and evolution.
Pupils will discover:
-
How fossils are formed, and the part sedimentary rock plays in this process
-
How living and extinct animals are classified based on their characteristics
-
How the fossil record shows us that animals have changed over time
Pupils will handle real fossils found on the Jurassic coast, take part in demonstrations, and discuss how we may classify a selection of living and extinct species.

This workshop supports key science curriculum topics including:
-
Year 6 Evolution and inheritance
-
Year 6 Living things and their habitats
This workshop is ideal for introductory 'hook' lessons, and consolidating and making curriculum learning memorable.
