Formby Sand Dunes Explorer

KS2          Full day          Available March - November

There are limited coach parking spaces available at Formby, which must be booked in advance. Please book as early as possible to avoid disappointment, particularly for the summer term.

This full day trip introduces pupils to the varied habitats found at Formby; the plant and insect species that rely on them; and the incredible conservation work taking place to protect them.

Pupils are guided through a series of hands on activities, designed to promote curiosity and exploration of the natural world.

We are happy to tailor your day towards a science or geography fieldwork focus.

Activities will be tailored in collaboration with you. This may include:

  • Identifying and surveying minibeasts, including using insect pooters

  • Plant surveys on the dunes

  • Plant identification and comparing species between habitats

  • Tree identification, sketching and taking rubbings

  • Measuring the age and height of trees

  • Habitat walks to discuss species adaptations and conservation
